Thought-Feeling-Behavior Log
Mapping the connection between situations, thoughts, emotions, and actions
The cognitive model shows that it is not events themselves that determine how we feel and act, but rather how we interpret those events. The same situation can lead to very different emotional and behavioral outcomes depending on the thought that arises. This log helps you practice identifying each component of the cognitive model so you can begin to notice where change is possible (Beck & Beck, 2020; Clark & Beck, 2023).
For each row, describe a recent situation, then record the automatic thought that came to mind, the emotion you felt (and its intensity from 0 to 100), and the behavior that followed. In the final column, write a more balanced alternative thought and note how the alternative shifts your emotional response.
| Situation | Automatic Thought | Emotion & Intensity (0-100) | Behavior | Balanced Alternative Thought |
