My Identity Mosaic

A visual exploration of who you are

GeneralInfographicFree Resource

Identity is the collection of roles, values, relationships, and qualities that define how you see yourself. Research in narrative identity theory (McAdams & McLean, 2013) shows that understanding the many facets of who you are promotes psychological well-being, resilience, and a stronger sense of purpose. Use this exercise to explore and illustrate the key parts of your identity.

1
My Roles
The positions you hold in life, such as student, sibling, friend, caretaker, teammate, or employee. Consider both formal roles and informal ones.
2
My Values
The principles that guide your decisions and behavior, such as honesty, creativity, loyalty, compassion, or independence.
3
My Strengths
The skills, talents, and positive qualities you bring to the world. Think about what others appreciate about you and what you feel confident doing.
4
My Passions
The activities, causes, or interests that energize and motivate you. These are the things you could talk about for hours or lose track of time doing.
5
My Relationships
The people and communities that shape who you are. Consider family members, friends, mentors, cultural groups, and other connections that matter to you.
6
My Aspirations
The goals, dreams, and hopes you have for your future self. Think about the person you are working to become and what drives that vision.
Instructions: For each category, write a brief description and draw an image that represents it. Your drawings can be literal, symbolic, or abstract. There are no wrong answers.
Your identity is not fixed. It grows and changes over time as you have new experiences, form new relationships, and discover new aspects of yourself.
