Comprehensive Stress Response Workbook

A four-domain self-care framework for understanding and reducing stress

Self-CareWorksheetFree Resource

Stress is the body's natural response to perceived demands or threats, activating physiological, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes designed to help you cope. While moderate stress can enhance performance and motivation, chronic or overwhelming stress degrades physical health, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life (American Psychological Association, 2023). Evidence-based stress management targets four interconnected domains: social connection, emotional regulation, life balance, and basic physiological needs (Conversano et al., 2021). Neglecting any single domain creates vulnerability; strengthening all four builds a resilient foundation. This workbook guides you through a structured self-assessment of each domain so you can identify specific, actionable steps for improvement.

Work through each domain in the table below. For every row, describe your current situation, identify one specific area that needs attention, and write a concrete action step you can take this week. Be honest in your self-assessment. After completing all domains, choose the two action steps that feel most achievable and commit to implementing them over the next seven days. Revisit this workbook weekly to track your progress.
