Personal Resilience Inventory
Identify and strengthen the factors that support your mental well-being
Protective factors are the internal strengths and external resources that buffer you against stress, emotional difficulties, and life challenges. Research in dialectical behavior therapy and resilience science (Linehan, 2015; Southwick & Charney, 2018; Ungar, 2021) demonstrates that actively identifying and cultivating protective factors improves distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and overall psychological resilience. This worksheet helps you take stock of what is already working in your life and create a deliberate plan to strengthen areas that need attention. By recognizing what supports you, you build a foundation for navigating future difficulties with greater confidence and flexibility.
Review each protective factor domain below. For each row, rate your current strength in that area on a scale from 1 (very low) to 10 (very strong), describe what you are already doing well, and identify one specific action you can take to strengthen that factor over the next month.
