Personal Values Discovery and Ranking
Identify and prioritize what matters most to guide purposeful decision-making
Values are enduring beliefs about what is genuinely important to you. Unlike goals, which can be achieved and checked off, values represent ongoing directions for living. Acceptance and commitment therapy research demonstrates that people who have a clear understanding of their values and actively align their behavior with them report greater life satisfaction, psychological flexibility, and resilience during adversity (Hayes et al., 2022; Villatte et al., 2021). This exercise helps you move from a vague sense of what matters to a concrete, ranked list that can guide meaningful decisions about your time, relationships, career, and self-care.
In the first column, write a value that is important to you. You might consider domains such as family, career, health, relationships, creativity, spirituality, community, learning, freedom, adventure, or integrity. In the second column, rank this value from 1 to 10 in terms of personal importance, with 1 being the most important. In the third column, describe one specific way you currently live this value or one action you could take to better align your daily life with it.
